Sometime in June this year, the nation was shocked about the Richard Huckle incident. He was arrested and jailed for sexually abusing multiple Malaysian children, and posting his offences on the dark web.

We were recently interviewed by BFM to discuss ways we can keep children safe from sexual predators. Organisations or institutions like ours cannot assume that just because someone is volunteering help, that particular person is genuine in his or her intentions. Therefore it is crucial that we not only have a robust child protection policy that governs who and how we work with children, but we need to also ensure that the child protection policy is consistently adhered to.

Looking beyond the responsibility of organisations and institutions, it is also important for parents to pick up best practices in keeping children safe and remain vigilant at all times.
