KUALA LUMPUR: Child abuse by parents and guardians is on the rise, with the number of cases going up from 992 in 2007 to 1,266 last year. There are 8.9 million children below the age of 15 in the country. Between January 2005 and May last year, she said, 4,968 children were reported missing and of the number, 1,859 had yet to be found. Over the past 5 years, there is an increase of more than 50% in reported cases of abuse. If we truly believe that children are our future; what are we doing as civil society to address these issues?
